IMMUNE RESPONSE AGAINST HUMAN VIRAL INFECTIONS BIO375

Description

The research group BIO-375 (Universidad de Málaga / IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND) focuses on investigating the immune response and the mechanisms of viral immunopathology in viruses of biomedical relevance, including HIV-1 and SARS-CoV-2. The group has achieved an outstanding track record in the field of biomedical research, obtaining funding through various competitive calls. Additionally, the group members have made significant contributions to the study of different infectious diseases with numerous publications in high-impact journals, including two publications in Nature (2021 and 2023), an article in Cell (2023), four articles in Nature Microbiology (2019, 2020, 2021, and 2021), and a publication in Nature Communications (2018).

Research Topics

  • Innate immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection and mechanisms of viral immunopathology.
  • Study of the interaction between HIV-1 and the interferon response: investigating host factors and evasion strategies.
  • Study of human immune factors influencing the severity of respiratory viral infections.

Scientific-Technical Services

  • Study of the neutralizing activity of antibodies.
  • Production and utilization of lentiviral vectors.
  • Studies of virus-host interaction.
  • Production and utilization of pseudotyped viruses.
