LIPIDS AND ARTERIOSCLEROSIS RESEARCH UNIT CTS159
Description
Research group of the Department of Medicine and Dermatology (Medicine area) and with facilities located at the CIMES (Medical-Health Research Center) of the University of Malaga. This group is characterized by multidisciplinarity. On the one hand, they care for patients at the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital and, at the same time, biologists who support the research activity in the laboratory.
Research Topics
- Alterations in lipoprotein metabolism.
- Rare diseases. PXE, Turner, Familial chylomicronemia.
- Epidemiology, stratification and prevention of cardiovascular risk.
- Evaluation of subclinical arteriosclerotic disease (vascular ultrasound, PET/CT and 3T-MRI).
- Diagnostic biomarkers for early detection in Alzheimer''s Disease and other dementias.
Scientific-Technical Services
- Biochemical determinations: lipoproteins, apoproteins and adipocytokins.
- Determination of lipoproteinlipase and hepatic lipase activity.
- Determination in CSF of biomarkers of Alzheimer''s Disease.
- In collaboration with the Molecular Image Unit of the CIMES, very high-grade resonance and Positron Emission Tomography (PET/CT).
- Genetic studies (HRM, TaqMan probes, massive sequencing panel): responsible for chylomicronemias, related to primary hypercholesterolemias, associated with hypo- and hyperalphalipoproteinemias, responsible for calcifying diseases and genotyping of apolipoprotein E (Alzheimer''s).
